LAFC Head Coach Marc Dos Santos Fired

LAFC head coach Marc Dos Santos was fired late Sunday night, less than 24 hours after the team’s loss to FC Dallas. Dos Santos spent nine months as head coach after taking over for former coach Steve Cherundolo.

President of Soccer Operations John Thorrington announced the decision, and the club has yet to name an interim replacement. LAFC said an update on interim coaching plans will be announced soon.

“Marc has given a great deal to this club over the years, and we are grateful for his commitment, care and contributions to LAFC,” Thorrington said.

The firing came after Saturday’s loss to FC Dallas, which left LAFC sixth in the Western Conference with an overall record of 11-9-8 and six regular-season games remaining.

Dos Santos’ tenure originally got off to a good start. LAFC opened the MLS Season with four straight wins and went undefeated through its first eight matches in all competitions. The team struggled to maintain good momentum as the season started to progress.

Dos Santos previously served as an assistant under Cherundolo from 2022 to 2025 before being promoted to head coach in December of 2025. His promotion marked the second consecutive time LAFC chose a successor from within the organization.

LAFC has had only three head coaches since the club began playing in 2018: Bob Bradley, Cherundolo, and Dos Santos. Cherundolo led LAFC to the 2022 MLS Cup and 2024 U.S. Open Cup before stepping down after the 2025 season.

LAFC will take the field on Oct. 10, where the team will be hosting the Vancouver Whitecaps at BMO Stadium.
