Beabadoobee lights up a chilly Austin night on ‘Powerlines Tour’

Fans screamed into the darkness, chanting for beabadoobee. Phones rose above heads while smoke swallowed the stage. A spotlight beamed through the haze before beabadoobee ran onstage, grabbed the microphone and launched into the high energy opener “Sun Has Set.”

Beabadoobee brought her “Powerlines Tour” to Austin on Saturday, shifting between guitar-heavy rock songs and soft melodies. The set relied as much on crowd interaction as it did on the music itself.

During “10:36,” screams erupted as she began singing, “You don’t need me.” She urged fans to crouch before the beat dropped, and the audience sprang up together, shouting the chorus back at her. After “Apple Cider,” blue light washed over the stage during “All I Did Was Dream of You.” She introduced herself and thanked Austinites for attending before launching into “Take A Bite,” enlisting energy back from the crowd.

For “Coffee,” beabadoobee enjoyed a solo moment with fans. The song helped launch her career during the COVID-19 pandemic. Between songs, she joked that the cold made Austin feel like the “fucking U.K. or something,” continuing on to reflect on how much she had grown to love touring after writing songs on her previous album about having a distaste for it.

Beabadoobee then introduced “Pylon” as one of her favorite songs. Behind her, illuminated power lines stretched across the screens, glowing against the darkness. The imagery gave the name of the “Powerlines Tour” a tangible presence, with towering electrical structures lighting up the backdrop and echoing the song’s title. She then moved into “Pictures of Us” before introducing an unreleased song, “The Road.”

She moved into “Memories” and “Glue Song,” as power lines flickered across and the screens and fans’ flashlights glowed across the venue. Screams filled the crowd during “the perfect pair” before lights flickered as beabadoobee climbed the towering pylon prop onstage for “Powerlines.”

After climbing down, she returned to stage and asked, “How are you fucking feeling?” before launching into “Nothing to Prove.” She followed with “Write Me A Letter” before stepping toward a phone prop on stage left to sing “Satellite” into.

The set shifted again as she played “It’s Alright” and “Talk,” telling Austin “I love you guys so much,” before moving into “Switchblade” beneath green lighting. The bass picked up while smoke filled the stage and strobe lights flashed behind the musicians, briefly reducing them to silhouettes. “Cologne” followed with the lights and smoke filling the stadium and a spot shining on her.

The lights went off after “Cologne,” with the musicians walking off. For a moment, the performance stopped, but the crowd stayed. Chants rose from the crowd, until she ultimately returned to end the night off with “the way things go,” unreleased song “Lemon to my Lime,” and finally “Beaches.”
